AARP driving course offered

The AARP Smart Driver course, a new and enhanced driving refresher course from AARP Driver Safety, will be offered at Wallowa County Senior Center, 701 NW 1st Street, Enterprise 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 19.

The class will be taught by certified volunteer instructor Frederick Moore. Participants can register by calling 541- 426-3840. Arrive early to complete paperwork. If a member of AARP, bring a membership card.

AARP Smart Driver Course participants will learn defensive driving skills, proven safety strategies, the latest driving technologies and how to manage and accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.

Certain participants may be eligible for a multi-year insurance discount after taking the course. Participants are encouraged to check with their insurance agent to see if they are eligible. There are no tests required to pass the course.

The course is open to drivers of all ages, and costs $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.

Wallowa seeking parade entries

Entry forms are available for the Wallowa Fourth of July Parade 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4.

Top entries will receive $150 (first), $100 (second) and $50 (third). There will also be awards in the children’s division and an award for the most patriotic entry.

Dallas and Carol McCrae will be this year’s grand marshals. In addition to the parade, a barbecue will be held noon at Wallowa Fire Hall serving burgers and hot dogs. A pie fundraiser is also planned along with live music by “No Boundaries. Free vendor space is available.
