Spare us the

NRA propaganda

My heart was heavy after reading the guest column by Doug Wickre last week. I was reminded of the speech the week before by the NRA leader Wayne LaPierre at the CPAC conference in which he railed against “they” who are at fault for the violence in our nation’s schools.

“They” were socialists, elites, democrats, the media, liberals and others. It was the most divisive speech nationally televised I have ever heard.

As the local contact for Friends of the NRA, Doug echoed this attack strategy in his column. The most frightening paragraph in his column applauded the Texas man with the AR-15 who fired 40 rounds from his front porch to protect himself from “three thugs.”

Imagine the possible collateral damage each of these 40 bullets might have caused across the street.

Is this the way we want to live? Let’s have common sense discussions in our community regarding gun laws, not propaganda from the NRA
