Children across the county ages birth through 18 will have the opportunity to eat a healthy and delicious meal four days a week throughout the summer.
Summer Lunch in the Park is sponsored by Building Healthy Families and is held in three locations noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday: Enterprise City Park, Joseph City Park and Wallowa City Park.
According to a spokesman for Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon, 1 in 4 kids in Oregon worry about where their next meal will come from during the summer when school hot lunch programs are not operating.
“Of all the kids who access free or reduced-priced lunch at school, only about 16 percent access summer meals,” said Steve Wytcherley, program director for Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon.
In addition to foods, sites offer supervised enrichment activities for children produced by volunteers.
The menu for Wednesday (today) includes spaghetti, fruit and vegetable and milk. Friday’s menu is chicken strips, whole wheat roll, fruit and vegetable and milk.
The menu will be printed each week in the Chieftain.
