Joseph students tops at OSU art show

Freshman Gabriel Hawkins-Connolly won best in show in the ninth-grade category.

Joseph Charter School freshman Gabriel Hawkins-Connolly’s painting, “Take a Hike, Memories of Ice Lake,” won the best in show in the ninth grade category at the Eastern Oregon Regional High School Art Exhibition at Eastern Oregon University.

Three art students from Joseph High School made their mark on the Eastern Oregon Regional High School Art Exhibition. The exhibition, held at the Nightingale Gallery of Eastern Oregon University, featured more than 300 works from regional students from as far away as Burns and Pendleton.

Joseph freshman Gabriel Hawkins-Connolly won best in show in the ninth-grade category for his painting, “Take a Hike, Memories of Ice Lake.” For his efforts, he received an award certificate, a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card, a sketchbook from the EOU art department and assorted EOU swag.

Junior Tori Suto garnered an honorable mention for her sculpture, “Up Lifted,” and senior Ally Wearin also received honorable mention for her drawing “Locked In.” Suto and Wearin received certificates of award.

The Eastern Oregon Regional High School Art Exhibition runs through March 21 and at Loso Hall on the EOU Campus.
