Two juvenile brothers drowned in Wallowa County during a rafting trip on the Grande Ronde River June 3. According to reports, the boys were rafting on the river with their father and when they encountered Martin’s Misery Rapids above Troy, their vessel hit a rock, which ejected the brothers into the rapids.

The father jumped into the waters in an attempt to save his children, but was unable to locate them. Sometime later another rafting group found the brothers but attempts at resuscitation failed.

Oregon State Police is investigating the incident, Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office, the Wallowa County District Attorney and the county’s medical examiner responded to the scene.
