Thelma Hahn Maxwell

Dec. 1, 1927 –– Oct. 17, 2018

Thelma Hahn Maxwell, 90, of Joseph passed away at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise. To honor her request, there will be no funeral service.

Thelma was born to Bill and Mildred (Hudson) Hahn in Enterprise and lived in Wallowa County all her life. She grew up on Prairie Creek attending Pratt School with her sisters (Lillie and Ruby). They helped their parents farm behind a team of horses. She graduated from Enterprise High School in 1945.

She married Donald “Bud” Maxwell May 26, 1950. They were married for 64 years before Bud passed away. After working on cattle ranches for several years, they moved to Enterprise where she worked as a meat cutter for Safeway and as a dental receptionist.

In 1979 they moved to Imnaha to garden and raise sheep. They reluctantly moved from Imnaha to Joseph where they lived for the last 20-plus years.

When asked to count her blessings, she included Traci Frye FNP. The only thing she regretted in her well-lived life was not traveling more.

Thelma is survived by her daughter Marcia Wood (Monte) of Hubbard, Ore.; son, Bill Maxwell of Enterprise; step-daughter, Gloria Hogue and her sons Kelly Oldaker of Eugene, Chris Hogue and Greg Hogue of Boise, Idaho; sister, Ruby McDaniel of Pendleton; niece, Sandi Kohl (Jim) Naches, Wash.; niece, Susan Doak of Utah; nephews Carl Robinson (Darlene) of Beaverton, Ore., Roland (Gene) Milligan of Sandy, Ore., Jim Maxwell of Clarkston, Wash., Dale Maxwell of Lostine, Kathy Maxwell of The Dalles; Burns Gray (Teh) of El Dorado Hills, Calif. and Steve Gray (Vickie) of Shingle Springs, Calif. plus many other nieces and nephews, as well as extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband “Bud,” granddaughter Jocelyn Wood, son-in-law Tom Wood, sister Lillie Robinson and brother-in-law Cliff Robinson. Also brother-in-law Bill and his wife Wilma Maxwell, brother-in-law Marvin and his wife Blanche Maxwell, nephews Richard Gray and Don Maxwell and niece Elaine Gray.

Spend time around the people you love is something Thelma wanted for us in lieu of flowers.
