Joseph’s track teams put in a good performance April 6 at the Prairie City Invitational and were rained out of a second meet last week in Milton-Freewater.

John Roberts’ teams returned home with third for the boys behind Baker, Powder Valley and Crane (tied for third). The girls took second behind Baker, which dominated the competition.

Tyler Homan and Juston Rogers led the running effort for the boys. Homan finished first in the 200 M with a 25.24 and fifth in the 100 M. Rogers took second in the 400 M with a 56.61, less than a second slower than the first-place finisher from Baker. He added a fourth in the 300 M Hurdles.

Homan and Rogers, a freshman, teamed with Guylen Snyder and Miguel Lizasoain finished second in the 4x100 Relay (48.20), again just a tad behind Baker runners.

Sophomore Keith Batton contributed a third in the 3000 M and a sixth in the 1500 M.

T J Grote and Kade Kilgore stood out in the field competition events, finishing first and second, respectively, in the pole vault with leaps of 11-feet. Grote’s previous best was a 9-6. Homan, in his first outing as a long-jumper, took fifth. Grote snagged a sixth in the triple jump and Lizasoain added a ninth in high jump for the Eagle boys.

Ella Coughlan, Elysse Tingelstad and Sabrina Albee led the lady performances in the running events at Prairie City.

Coughlan finished first the 200 M with a 29.22. Tingelstad captured the 3000 M event with a 11.23.69. As the only girl participant, she ran with the boys, according to coach Roberts.

“And she beat all but one of the boys as well,” he noted.

Albee in her first outing in the 400 M finished first as well with a 1:08.99.

Albee, Coughlan, Alexis Sykora and Camille Crenshaw teamed to capture second in the 4x100 Relay, with a 55.57, finishing behind Baker. Sykora added a fourth in the 100 M and Crenshaw a second in her first outing in the 800 M. Alayna Moore took ninth in the 100 M Hurdles.

Senior Maddie Bailey led the girls in the field events capturing first in the pole vault with a 6-06 leap. Bailey was a top competitor for Joseph last season, but pulled out just prior to district competition Roberts said.

Crenshaw took home a third in the javelin with Bailey finishing 10th. Sykora and Madelyn Nelson finished third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Sykora and Nelson also finished in a tie for third in the high jump.

Albee added a sixth in the long jump, Bailey a seventh in triple jump and Renee Seal ninth in shot put.

Junior Natalie Gorham picked up a fourth in discus.

The squads were scheduled to compete in the Carnival of Speed at McLoughlin High School in Milton-Freewater Saturday and the Weston-McEwen Small School Invitational Tuesday. Joseph will join Enterprise in a meet at La Grande High School Saturday.
